Samui hates us..

Mom and Dad were right when they said Koh Samui is hard to leave and we don't mean in the good way - We had the travel day from hell which I am sure our fellow travelers are not missing at all. We got up at 5:00am to collect our paintings and was greeted by a down pour so bad it had soaked our traveling clothes down to our underwear in a matter of seconds. As soon as we reached the shop to get our paintings the rain suddenly stopped, when we left the shop with our bundles of joy the rain had started again.. Soaking to the bone we reached our hotel but everything was packed and it was still raining so we felt no need to change out of our wet clothes. On the advice of the travel agent she advised us to take a truck to the ferry as it will only be 50baht compared to 400baht for a taxi, the trucks have a covered roof and the rain was slowing so we figured why not?? Well let me tell you why not!
We got into the truck at 6:30- According to our ticket the ferry leaves at 7:30 and it is about 15min away. He started going in the other direction and next thing we knew we were going around the island picking up other people by 7:00am it had started pouring again and every time he hit a puddle the muddy water would come through the front on the roof with the space in it and splash kirby and I in the face, he also continued to pick up other people so at one point there was 14 people crammed in the back of the truck (And our luggage) The driver spent so much time picking up other people we didn't get to the ferry until 7:26, 4 min before our ferry was supposed to be leaving. We frantically jumped from the cab of the truck, even more wet then when we got on and started to run to the ferry when some Thai men yelled at us to come back. They looked at our tickets and advised we need to change them in for boat tickets and then get on a bus - So we did as we were told and found out the ferry doesn't actually leave until 8:00 but we had no idea what was going on so we threw our bags in the undercarriage and hoped on the bus which proceeded to drive us onto the ferry then advised we had to get off and go onto the ferry - We unfortunately did not foresee this so we are now sitting in the highly air conditioned ferry ringing out our muddy soaking clothes and shivering for the next 2 hours, at one point we tried to get a tea or soup to warm us up from the inside however they had just ran out of hot water... When we got across the islands we found our bus and talked him into waiting while we got some dry clothes.. Kirby grabbed shorts and a t-shirt and I grabbed some socks and a sweater. Kirby changed in his seat and I slipped my wet t-shirt off from under my sweater and we buckled down for what we thought would be a nice dry 3 hour ride into Krabi. We stopped after 40min where they instructed everyone to get off the bus, when we got off we found all our bags on the wet ground sitting in the rain and a swarm of people around us. One guy asked to see our tickets which we showed him and he pointed us to another guy.. The second guy advised he takes us to the company from whom we bought our tickets - So we got into the truck with all our bags and once everyone was packed in he demanded 50baht each, so we pay up realizing he is a taxi and in fact does not work for the company -He then proceeds to drive around the block and drops us off half a block away from where we started. When we got out we yelled at him until he got back into his truck, we told the travel person who got mad and yelled at the now moving away truck that there is supposed to be no charge for them dropping us off... So now we have been ripped off 100baht, not realizing we were not going to be in a AC bus right now I was boiling in my sweater and had to change into the only thing I had available which happened to be my muddy wet t-shirt from this mornings troubles. We had to wait an hour and a half before a 2nd taxi came(this time for free) and dropped us off at the bus we were taking for the rest of the ride.. We stood in the rain with our bags as a girl was standing in the bus entrance rummaging through her purse and blocking it so no one could get past her - So we are wet again (as we have been since 5:00am this morning) and boarded our bus. My intentions was to sleep however the driver had a different plan as he really wanted to listen to his Asian rock music as loud as the blown speakers would go, it was so loud that kirby had his ipod on full blast and could not hear some of the songs. After 3 hours of torture we arrived at Krabi bus station which from there we had to take another truck taxi into Ao Nang, thankfully that although it is still raining it wasn't very hard and the truck had plastic sheets covering the open sides which shielded us from spray. We arrived in Ao Nang at 5:00pm after 11 hours of traveling (should have been 5) and got dropped off at For You House. We were worried there would be no rooms available as of course it was a long weekend, the place is in a tucked in corner of the beach and you cant book online so we were lucky there was rooms - However... last time we were here we paid 450baht, since then their rates have gone up to 1000baht/night. Still this being the best price around we checked out one of the rooms which was to our satisfaction and asked if we could get a better price. The owner recognized us from November (Which by the way we have had every person we have delt with remember us)And was very touched that we came back and offered us 750/night which isn't too bad -We are moving into a different room tonight as the one we are in is booked up for the rest of the week but the one we are moving into has leather couch and chair so it will make it easier to play cards. We went for a dinner at JJ's (By the way Jason the little server girl was very disappointed you went home.. Very Very disappointed) which closed for the holiday just as we got there but they let us stay - We had not had anything to eat or drink that day other then a glass of coke and half a bag of chips. Then everything in town closed by 6:00pm so we went back to our room and went to bed which turned out to be very uneventful, thank god.
The first photo is of Ao Nang and the second is the view of the ocean from our room.

One more thought...I know it is frustrating with that kind of travel but one day you will look back and say remember when we rode on the back of that crazy truck in wet clothes and had mud on our faces....memories..

I must say, that story really helped us to miss Thailand less and enjoy home, despite the freezing weather, a whole lot more!! Enjoy Ao Nang though, one of the best places! Which room did you get at the Guesthouse?
