Keeping out of trouble..

It is awefully easy to keep out of trouble in Raglan.. There are so many activities here that are in-expensive that we have kept so busy you cant get into trouble, your either getting the workout of your life or too exhausted to move. We arrived in Raglan on the 15th (Due to costly amount of internet there we were forced to leave the blug unposted for a few days) on the drive down we stopped in a small town made of tin which consisted only of giftshops and antiques as well as a large castle that housed the toy museum. We ecided against the museum as it was a little pricey but stopped in the little town and did some shopping. We got to Raglan at about 2:00pm and really enjoyed the hostel - It is very quite all the rooms face the main courtyard and have nice double doors that open wide onto the courtyard, they also had hammocks hanging around. We decided to take our travel day easy and hit the grocery store and enjoyed the hammocks.. Really nothing too exciting thankfully as that was the only rest we got for 2 days. Kirby, Sarah, Bob and Jay wanted to do some golfing on the 16th and as it is a open course I was able to come along and "caddie" for the guys. I even got tips like "Dont eat the yellow snow".. Very handy indead.
When we finally found a place that rented out left hander golf clubs we made our way to the golf course. The president was there who was a very nice and helpful lady who advised us the front nine was more scenic however there was lots of sheep on there today and she would appeciate if we didn;t kill one of them - So the back nine it was!
The course was fantastic, not that we have a lot of experiance in golf courses but it was so beautiful with rolling hills and creeks. The only downside was trying to avoid the sheep droppings which if I am correct was more challenging then hitting the golf ball.
Sarah and Bob tied for first followed by Jason and then Kirby. It was a lovely walk which we all enjoyed and were a little tired when we returned to the hostel, however it was not time to relax yet!! In the morning we had reserved 4 kayaks for Bob, Sarah, Kirby and I for 6:00pm. Well we suited up in our life jackets and was advised by Tim (One of the hostel owners) that we wont get very wet and head out under the bridge - Well that sounds great!!
We got into the water and started to paddle around.. The first challenge was trying to figure out how to work the paddle as unlike a canoe paddle the oar is not straight - It is double sided which means that you paddle down one side, twist the paddle then paddle on the other side.. If you dont twist.. You dont move!
Ok no problem... Just a coordination thing..
Tim neglected to tell us that when you twist it splashes all the water from the bottom of the paddle straight onto your lap.. Not that wet?? We were dripping soaked by the third paddle. .. Thanks Tim..
We were ready to really set off when I realized we hadn't gone anywhere yet and my biceps where already burning and the bridge we are supposed to go under is not exactly close... so we push off going with the current and doing not so bad. We got a good ways past the bridge just as the storm moved in and it started to rain on us.. Now we were really wet.. and cold.. So ok its time to head back..
Hmmm... Upstream and against the wind.. This should be fun..
We paddled for what seamed like ages when we finally reached the bridge - We noticed a great deal of splashing and saw it was all the trout jumping out of the water so since we were wet anyways we parked out kayaks and watched the fish jumping out of the water.. One almost jumped rught into Kirbys kayak.. Mmmm dinner...
We finished the rest of the painsaking journey through the rain and arrived finally at shore 2 hours after we had left.. Now thats a lot of paddling.. I was pretty sure I would never again have proper use of my arms.
